Biography
Chief, High Performance Computing Section, supporting model development, parallelization, and porting to high performance computers, and explores advanced computing technologies for GSD, ESRL and NOAA. Group is active in a number of diverse areas:
(1) using FineGrain processors such as GPUs or Intel's Many Integrated Core (MIC) as a high-performance, low-cost alternative to traditional CPU-based supercomputers.
(2) parallelization of the next-generation global weather models for GPU and MIC architectures,
(3) development of tools for portability including the use of the Earth System Modeling Framework (ESMF) and NOAA Environmental Modeling System (NEMS),
(4) development of mechanisms to improve fault tolerance of complex modeling systems intended for NWS operations,
(5) development of tools to simplify the configuration, testing, running and evaluation of weather models being developed and evaluated at NOAA, and
(6) parallelization and porting of weather codes for use on many of the nation's largest High Performance Computers (HPCs).
