SUMMARY:Software Engineering and Reuse in Computational Science and Engine
 ering
DESCRIPTION:Birds of a Feather\nTech Program Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass,
 Exhibits - Exhibit Hall Only Reg Pass\n\nSoftware Engineering and Reuse in
  Computational Science and Engineering\n\nBernholdt, Carver, Gropp, Haupt,
  Heroux...\n\nSoftware engineering (SWE) for computational science and eng
 ineering (CSE) is challenging, with ever-more sophisticated and higher fid
 elity simulation of ever-larger and more complex problems involving larger
  data volumes, more domains, and more researchers. Targeting both commodi
 ty and custom high-end computers multiplies these challenges. We invest a
 great deal in creating these codes, but rarely talk about that experience;
  we just focus on the results.\n\nOur goal is to raise awareness of SWE fo
 r CSE on supercomputers as a major challenge, and to develop an internatio
 nal “community of practice” to continue these important discussions outsid
 e of workshops and other “traditional” venues.
