SUMMARY:Software Development Tools for HPC and at Scale
DESCRIPTION:Students@SC Event\nStudent Program\n\nSoftware Development Too
ls for HPC and at Scale\n\nSchulz\n\nDebugging and performance optimizatio
n are critical steps in the software development process for HPC applicati
ons and need to be supported by appropriate tools. Compared to comparable
standard tools, however, HPC tools need to fulfill one additional requirem
ent: they need to scale themselves, i.e., work well with applications runn
ing at large scale. In this talk, I will highlight the challenges in scali
ng tools, both for debugging and performance analysis, and will discuss se
veral examples. In particular, I will focus on the use of intuitive visual
izations for performance analysis and how it can help to expose and elimin
 ate bottlenecks.
