SUMMARY:Applying the Execution-Cache-Memory Model: Current State of Practi
 ce
DESCRIPTION:Poster\nTech Program Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass\n\nApplying t
he Execution-Cache-Memory Model: Current State of Practice\n\nHager, Eitzi
 nger, Hornich, Cremonesi, Alappat...\n\nThe ECM (Execution-Cache-Memory) m
odel is an analytic, resource-based performance model for steady-state lo
op code running on multicore processors. Starting from a machine model, wh
ich describes the interaction between the code and the hardware, and stati
c code analysis, it allows an accurate prediction of the runtime of sequen
tial loop code. Together with a scaling assumption, it also gives a perfor
mance scaling prediction. This poster summarizes the current state of prac
tice in constructing and applying the ECM model, points out problems and o
pen questions, and applies the model to three new and nontrivial use cases
. For the first time, overlap assumptions for all relevant CPU architectur
es in high performance computing are presented.
