SUMMARY:Federated Cloud: An Evolutionary Path from Grid Computing
DESCRIPTION:Panel\nTech Program Reg Pass\n\nFederated Cloud: An Evolutiona
ry Path from Grid Computing\n\nYazdi, Bohn, Michel, Lee, Grimshaw...\n\nTh
e current cloud ecosystem is one in which cloud providers do not interoper
ate. This hinders the service reach, resources and scalability that can be
offered to the customer. This has led to a growing recognition that the
lack of cloud federation in a landscape of multiple independent cloud prov
iders is a technical and economic challenge. The federation of research c
louds is essential and necessary enabling technology for the development a
nd translation of innovations in IoT, high-performance computing, distribu
ted big-data analytics, and global scientific collaboration. Previous stud
ies and implementations of grid computing have encountered and solved simi
lar problems. \n\n-- What are some of these unique challenges that impede
progress to federated cloud?\n\n-- Can previous work in grid computing lea
d to an evolved set of solutions to maximize the return on investment for
providers and users of cloud computing?\n\n-- What has grid computing been
accomplished that cloud federation can leverage?
