SUMMARY:Containers, Collaboration, and Community: Hands-On Building a Data
Science Environment for Users and Admins
DESCRIPTION:Tutorial\nClouds and Distributed Computing, Data Analytics, Da
ta Management, System Administration, Tools, Workflows, Tutorial Reg Pass\
n\nContainers, Collaboration, and Community: Hands-On Building a Data Scie
nce Environment for Users and Admins\n\nDooley, Brandt, Sampedro, Traxler,
Holt\n\nIn this tutorial we combine best practices and lessons learned in
evolving traditional HPC data centers at TACC, CU, and LSU into more inte
grated data science environments. In the first session, participants will
learn about best practices in data science and software engineering and ap
ply them while containerizing and scaling an MPI application using multipl
e container technologies across clouds, clusters, and a sandbox environmen
t we will provide. They will then leverage continuous integration and deli
very to increase the portability, visibility, and availability of their in
dividual application codes. The first session will conclude with participa
nts learning how the same approaches can be used by sysadmins to improve u
pdate and release velocities of their entire application catalogs while be
tter balancing security and regression support concerns.\n\nIn the second
session, participants will learn how to leverage automation and cloud serv
ices to better handle version and metadata management. From there, they wi
ll customize their own data science environment and gain hands-on experien
ce using cloud services and the Agave Platform by extending their environm
ent to publish and share applications, manage data, orchestrate simulation
s across both HPC and cloud resources, capture provenance information, and
  foster collaboration.
