SUMMARY:Making Container Easier with HPC Container Maker
DESCRIPTION:Workshop\nHPC Center Planning and Operations, State of the Pra
ctice, System Administration, Workshop Reg Pass\n\nMaking Container Easier
with HPC Container Maker\n\nMcMillan\n\nContainers make it possible for s
cientists and engineers to easily use portable and reproducible software e
nvironments. However, if the desired application is not already available
from a container registry, generating a custom container image from scratc
h can be challenging for users accustomed to a bare metal software environ
ment. HPC Container Maker (HPCCM) is an open source project to address the
se challenges. HPCCM provides a high level, configurable Python recipe for
mat for deploying HPC components into container images according to best p
ractices. HPCCM recipes are more portable and powerful than native contain
er specification formats, easier to create, and produce smaller, well-cons
 tructed container images.
